Do You Have the Fears of a Child or an Adult?

You Have the Fears of a Child

At your core, you are still very young and vulnerable.

You still haven't found your place in the world, and you're wondering how you will fit in.

You tend to have highly emotional fears. You worry that your whole world will fall apart.

Your life is fairly unstable right now. Your fears feel very vivid and very real.

The girl in the mirror

The girl in the mirror

© By Sarah Heffner

I look in the mirror and see a girl,
Who is staring back at me.
I don't know who she is,
Because she's not the girl I wana be.

She puts a smile on,
While inside she is falling apart.
She says, "I'm okay",
As pain fills her heart.

She pretends not to care,
As everyone slowly walks away.
She hides behind her mask,
And pretends to be okay.

She is scared to open up,
And call someone her best friend.
They all turn out the same,
And never really care in the end.

She is scared to let people close,
It always ends up as heartache.
She decides to trust someone,
But it always ends up as a big mistake.

She feels like a stranger in her own home,
Like she doesn't even belong.
She tries the best she can,
But it always seems to be wrong.

She freezes up at the word "love",
People throw it around too much.
Her muscles constrict,
As she is afraid to be touched.

She has ideas for the future,
Hopes and dreams of her own.
But she doesn't hold her breath,
Because disappointment is all she has ever known.

She asks, "Why am I never good enough",
"Why am I always second choice"?
People tell her she's got to stand up for what she wants,
She's got to find her own voice.

I know who I wanna be,
It's all so much clearer.
But the fact of life is,
I'm only the girl in the mirror.

What Season is Your Soul Connected To?

Your Soul Is Connected to the Fall

You are a somewhat sensitive soul with a tough exterior. You are street smart and wise about the world.

You have the heart of a poet, but you're not too eager to let anyone else see it.

You are very creative and deeply talented. You are still looking for the perfect outlet for your expression.

You embrace change and think the cycles of life are beautiful. You don't shrink away from the darker elements of life.

YOU KNOW YOU LIVE IN NEW JERSEY WHEN...

You don't understand why there aren't more 24-hour diners elsewhere in the country.

You know what a Wawa is, and know the location of at least 15 of them.

You know what became of the 13th Leeds child, and claim to have seen him one time while peeing in the woods.

You know that you should get the hell out of Camden before dark.

You know how to successfully handle a traffic circle.

You think the Olive Garden is a bunch of crap and should not open restaurants in New Jersey.

You can't believe MTV went to Seaside Heights.

You know that ACME is an actual store, not just a Warner Bros. creation.

The mafia runs half the businesses in your town (now it's Mexicans).

You have mandatory recycling. Enforced by law.

You've made a meal out of Tastycakes and Herr's BBQ potato chips.

You know it can be -10 degrees and 70 degrees in January in the same year.

You will always say "YO", and you'll say it often.

You know that this is the only "New" state that doesn't require "New" to identify it (try . . Mexico York Hampshire-- doesn't work, does it?).

You live within 20 minutes of at least three different malls.

You think North Jersey is a different state and South Jersey deserves its own secession.

Every time someone in Hollywood makes fun of Jersey, you're mad and proud at the same time.

Best Friends Animal Society’s Official Statement on Michael Vick’s return to professional football

Editor’s Note:

Best Friends Animal Society, which took in 22 of Michael Vick’s fighting dogs in January of 2008, today released the following statement regarding Vick’s announced contract signing with the Philadelphia Eagles of the National Football League.

“Michael Vick has served his time and satisfied the requirements of our legal system. But if he is truly as remorseful as he claims, then he must know in his heart that what he did cannot be undone. In fact, the only true expression of remorse that he could possibly make would be to dedicate the rest of his life to relieving the suffering of animals and helping to bring all dog fighting to an end.

“This being said, Best Friends feels that perhaps the cart is being placed before the horse. Wouldn’t it have been better if, before he was given the privilege of returning to the NFL, he had spent at least one year working for the good of animals? He could have worked as a shelter volunteer, visited community centers, and delivered messages to at-risk children, totally free from the glare of the pro football spotlight. Surely this act of dedication would help us see what truly is in his heart.

“As it is, we’re left to wonder if his expression of repentance is genuine or just part of a well-orchestrated plan to return him to multi-million-dollar, sports megastar status.

“Through our work with the “Vicktory Dogs,” we hope to improve the image of all dogs that are the unfortunate victims of cruelty, such as the American Pit Bull Terrier and dogs that resemble pit bulls. Our “Pit Bulls: Saving America’s Dog” campaign is an example of how we are committing time and resources to end dog fighting for good.

“We sincerely believe that our work for the good of the dogs is the best single statement we could possibly make about Vick and dog fighting in general. Our focus remains fixed on helping animals and educating the public until the horrible practice of dog fighting can be eliminated once and for all.

“We hope that people concerned about Vick’s return to football will channel their frustrations into something positive. Take a pit bull for a walk. Volunteer at your local shelter. Better yet, skip an Eagles game and donate what you would have paid for a ticket to the animal welfare organization of your choice.”

About Best Friends Animal Society
Best Friends Animal Society, which celebrates its 25th anniversary in 2009, is a nonprofit, membership organization building no-kill programs and partnerships that will bring about a day when there are No More Homeless Pets®. British Cat Is Regular Bus Commuter

Photo: SWNS.com

by Kirsten Taylor

Everyone can appreciate the conveniences of public transportation -- even a cat.

Susan Finden wasn't sure where her free-spirited kitty would disappear to every day until the local bus drivers in Plymouth, England revealed to her that Casper has been a regular on the No. 3 bus for the last four years! You read that right. Each morning, the Sun reports, Casper lines up with the paying passengers to await the 10:55 morning service. He takes a seat in the back and enjoys the 11-mile, round-trip route before hopping off to return home. The drivers watch out for the wandering feline and make sure he gets off at the right stop.

A spokesman for the bus company says they're happy to let the 12-year-old cat ride for free. After all, he said, "In cat years he's an OAP [Old Age Pensioner] so he'd get a free bus pass anyway."

The Jungle Test

You Are Dramatic

You are colorful and charismatic. You get and hold people's attention.

Right now, you are seeking peace and tranquility in your life.

You are drawn to people who are philosophical and thoughtful.

You feel like there is nothing in your life that needs to be changed.

You make a lot of course corrections in your life. Your first reaction is usually not your final verdict.

Ohhh Boy......

Bastardi Says Snowiest in Over 5 Years NYC to D.C.

AccuWeather.com's Chief Meteorologist and Expert Long Range Forecaster Joe Bastardi, predicts the current El Niño will fade over the winter and will probably not play as much of a role in the overall weather pattern as one would think during a typical El Niño year.

The areas that will be hit hardest this winter by cold, snowy weather will be from New England through the Appalachians and mid-Atlantic, including North Carolina. Areas from New York City to Raleigh have gotten by the past two years with very little snowfall. This year these areas could end up with above-normal snowfall.

While some parts of the Appalachians did have harsh winter weather in the form of ice last year, this winter could be one of the snowiest since 2002-03, when up to 80 inches fell in many places. Snowfall totals this year could reach between 50 and 100 inches. Last winter, the usage of salt was way up due to the number of ice storms. Salt supplies could be compromised again this year for state and local road crews that battle the winter weather. On the other hand, ski resorts could have a great year with plenty of powder for skiers.

Bastardi adds that the overall weather pattern that has prevailed this summer is pointing to a winter very similar to that of 2002-03, when major cities on the East Coast had above-average snowfall. Expert Senior Meteorologist Henry Margusity points out that in February of 2003, a major snowstorm paralyzed much of the Interstate 95 corridor, including New York City and Philadelphia. During the storm, airports were closed, roads were impassable, roofs collapsed and some schools were closed for a week, causing summer vacations to start late.

The storm track that could develop this year will bring storms up the Eastern Seaboard. This type of storm track will differ from that of the past two years, when storms tended to take a track farther west from Texas into the Great Lakes. That track into the Great Lakes brought unseasonably mild weather to the major East Coast cities, keeping them on the more rainy side of the storms. The track this year right along the Eastern Seaboard would put the major cities on the cold, wintry side of the storms.

Gas Problem

I was in the pub yesterday when I suddenly realized I desperately needed to fart. The music was really, really loud, so I timed my farts with the beat. After a couple of songs, I started to feel better. I finished my drink and noticed that everybody was staring at me. Then I suddenly remembered that I was listening to my iPod.

Severe Weather

August 2, 2009 (WPVI) -- Officials are starting to let traffic pass on I-76 again.

The Schuylkill Expressway was closed for between 2-and-a-half and 3 hours late Sunday morning and early Sunday afternoon. Heavy downpours brought a massive amount of rainwater and debris onto the highway, forcing PennDOT to close I-76 in both directions. See raw video of the flooding here.

Yesterday, Medford got hit hard with storms. Medford is about 40-45 minutes away from us, and although we've been getting hit with heavy rains, we've not experienced any of the above severe weather.

What Frozen Treat Are You?

You Are a Snow Cone

You are lighthearted, playful, and optimistic about the world.

You're always having fun, and you're not the type to turn down anything sweet.

People might be surprised to know that you're very sensitive.

Even though you put on a brave face, your feelings are easily wounded.
