Time To Heal

Thankfully it's all over. Thursday's viewing for Joey's boss left me speechless. Our family arrived at the funeral home at 5:30 PM and we had to wait in line even at that early hour. There were so many people that they had to extend the viewing past 11 PM. There were two lines and some were waiting in line up to four hours. It was estimated that well over a thousand came to see Neil that night.

We had one of Joey's older brothers stay with us. He came down from upstate NY to go to both viewings. This is the first time we had someone stay over since we moved into the house. I was so nervous because I wanted to make sure he was comfortable.

When we returned to the funeral home the following morning, there was a small line, but a line nevertheless. The small church was overflowing with people, so much so that people had to stand up in the church and there were a few dozen who had to stand outside. There wasn't one dry eye in the place.

Later that evening, we went to the other viewing. It was crowded, but no where near the magnitude of Neil's viewing. Afterwards, we went out to dinner and then we went home to relax.

I finally got some sleep and I hope Joey did too. It's going to take a long time for everyone to come to grips that Neil is no longer here, but the healing has started.
