Here We Go Again

The current forecast calls for Rita to strengthen over the Florida Straits and it could become a Category 2 (96-110 mph winds) hurricane as it approaches the western parts of the Florida Keys Tuesday night.

Once it reaches the Gulf of Mexico, the hurricane center warns that Rita will likely intensify further, possibly into a major hurricane with winds topping 140 mph by Friday morning. The exact track of Rita once it reaches the Gulf is highly uncertain, so all residents along the U.S. Gulf Coast should watch the situation carefully. There is a distinct possibility that Rita could impact areas devastated by Hurricane Katrina.

Update (4:00 PM): Katrina has indeed strengthened into a Catagory 2. She is expected to strengthen into a Catagory 4 in the next few days. Stay Tuned...
